The bottom end of the magazine spring forms a lock for the base plate.  Using the side cutouts in the magazine, you need to work the bottom of the spring up and out of the way before you tap the baseplate off.

WTP / Late model WTP 1 magazine

SN 47318. The Pender book calls for a magazine with a square front floor plate with banner.  It came with a round front floor plate with banner like the WTP 2.  I donít see a round front floor plate with banner in the book for a WTP 1.  Does anyone know if a change to the magazine occurred prior to the transition in models/

From the pictures you sent and details about the magazine plate, I donít believe the issue is with the magazine.  You also mentioned you can push up on the magazine and the slide closed.  I believe the culprit is the magazine catch.  Your photo showed you had a stamped magazine catch.  It appears that the area which holds the magazine in place has been bent or distorted so it will not hold the magazine tight in place.  I donít have a spare stamped magazine catch for a 1910.  Maybe someone hear can help you find one or has one in spare parts.

Yes.  The Split tailed base is an older style but should still work if there are no other issues with it.  Old magazines can have there little ďissuesĒ.  If the comment from 1914Mauser was regarding David from Handguns of World, I have bought other magazines from him before and they were of great quality and good working order.

If you arenít able to resolve the issue, I have written a document that talks about how the hold open catch operates as well as its interaction with the magazine.  It may help to diagnose where the issue is. Let me know and I can send to you.  Original magazines can be found on eBay from time to time for way less than the $200.  You need the version with the solid square floor plate.  I was able to purchase 2 recently.

Does anyone know where I can get a 2 screw grip for a WTP1.  Reproduction of good quality is also ok.
