Help! Slide stucks at loading position.
« on: September 12, 2023, 10:24:38 AM »
Someone here who can help me?

I have purchased a C96 in the original caliber 7.63

Before I shot them the first time, i disassembly it and noticed that the firing pin was broken, so I replaced the firing pin, the firing pin spring and the slide spring.

Then I wanted to test it, but I have the problem that the bolt slide stuck in the loading position after every shot.

What could be the reason for this?

Ammunition is 7.63 Mauser from PPU

Thank you

How many rounds loaded?  Does the barrel/extension run smoothly on the frame rails when worked by hand...is it overly loose/tight?  If too loose it could be 'wedged' a bit sideways enough to lock in place...too tight is obvious.
Weak return spring?

I had loaded 5 rounds but stopped after the 5 because I didn't want to damage the gun.

The slide runs good as far as I can tell.

The return spring was changed for a new one.
I had heard from a German forum that almost all new springs are a little weak and PPU as ammunition would not be so good.

I should try Fiocchi

But at prices of 25 € for PPU and 75 € for Fiocci I had first decided for PPU

Congratulation on your new 7.63!

I strongly suggest you also replace the hammer spring since it contributes significantly to keeping the slide in battery and is a big part of controlling the gun from opening too early. The slide spring does do some of the work to keep it in battery, but not all the work like it would on a modern pistol.

Adding to what reiver1 suggested...
Could the bolt-stop be binding on that new firing pin?
How does the new recoil spring compare in length and diameter to the old one, are the the same dimensions?

There is no way that should happen and you have an issue.  Replace all springs ..recoil/Firing pin and the internal hammer spring.
Also, replace the bolt stop with  a new one for safety.
The bolt should never return that far...

I'd do a function check as that slide is impacting your bolt stop and should not..... cock the hammer and put one hand on the barrel, then grasp the bolt charging handle/wings and attempt to pull the bolt open.  Do not touch the lower frame.

The bolt should not move...it should be locked by the 2 lugs.  If it does move more than a minute fraction you have a non working locking system.  Mismatched parts or seriously worn lugs of the bolt or lug block.... or the internals are not functional as designed. This would create a blow back operation that is dangerous in that C 96.

I may have found the error.

I wanted to change the hammer spring and realised that something was missing or broken off.

I'll order the new one, put everything together and then test it and report back ;)
